Sling TV Review: #TakeBackTV: Cut the Cord, Ditch the Cost

I’m guessing you’re not watching half the programming available in that fancy cable package of yours.

Sure, there are live shows you’d love to watch, but how often can you sit down and get that done?

Pretty much never, right?

So, really, why keep paying a cable bill that’s worse than bus exhaust? Now you can #TakeBackTV and enjoy the best of both programming worlds.

Sling TV is the perfect marriage of live and on-demand entertainment, offering a collection of channels, like ESPN, TNT, TBS, AMC, Travel Channel, HGTV (my fav!) and CNN – basically all the great networks that were once reserved for cable-paying, contract-bound folks. You know, like you and me.

Well, now just you . . . because I’m hooked!

At just $20 a month for the Sling Orange service, I get 25+ live-streaming channels and the newest movies with no contract or sketchy hidden fees. And, it’s super easy to add Extras, each for $5 more per month. In fact, new channels are popping up all the time – like NBC, USA, Syfy, Bravo, and more!

Here’s the skinny on what happened in my house: within minutes of registering on the site and downloading the Sling TV app, we were able to access programming on our TV through Chromecast, but you can use almost any streaming media player, like your Xbox One, Roku Player, Roku Stick or Amazon Fire TV. Recently, Apple TV got in on the action! Check out their offer for new customers, where you can get an Apple TV for $89 when you pre-pay for three months of Sling TV.

Immediately, my seven-year old tapped the Disney Channel, and was even able to help his younger brother score a flick of his own. For once I wasn’t acting like a frustrated archaeologist on a programming dig trying to find a suitable show for my children! It’s all right there and super easy for them to navigate. This alone turns the happiness factor up to 11 in my household (and buys me another cup of coffee in peace).

Now, not all Sling TV channels allow you to pause, rewind and fast-forward like with a DVR, and only some of the networks give you the option to watch something that aired on that channel over the last three days. But, play around and see if you can make it work for you. Sling TV is basically live programming – and more – without the stinky cost. I’m thinking this smokes cable.
